About
What this is
Out of Sample tests one claim about markets every Sunday and publishes the code that produced the answer.
Not predictions. Not picks. Not "5 AI stocks to watch." Just a specific thing people say about markets, run against real data, with the method shown so you can check my work or prove me wrong.
Why I started it
The finance internet has a volume problem, not an information problem. Claims get repeated until they sound true, and almost nobody goes back to check whether they ever were. I got tired of reading confident takes with no numbers under them.
So the rule here is simple. If I can't test it, I don't publish it. If the test says something boring, I publish the boring thing.
Why it's called Out of Sample
In testing, "in sample" is the data you built a strategy on. "Out of sample" is data it's never seen. Almost every strategy looks great in sample. The only question that matters is what happens out of sample. That's the question this newsletter asks every week.
Who I am
I'm Xander, a finance student at Lipscomb University. I hold the Bloomberg Market Concepts certification. I'm not a fund manager, I don't run money for anyone, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. What I have is a method and the willingness to publish results that make me look wrong.
Research and drafting are AI assisted. The judgment, the questions, and the responsibility for every number are mine.
